One day, I was on my mom's boyfriend's four-wheeler with him. We were going through the fields seeing if there were anymore calves. We went through the first field, and there was one new calf. It was standing over by the fence that separates the fields. Of course, we thought nothing of it, because calves will be calves and wander around.
When we got done checking the second field, which had no calves, I had to close the gate. When I got off of the four-wheeler, it started mooing like you would never believe it was a calf or it was a newborn. It had a gruff voice and kept on mooing. My mom's boyfriend said that the calf was mad. He drove the four-wheeler away and mooed to pretend he was its mother, to get it to go by the other cows. It followed us to the cows, so we left.
Later that day my mom's boyfriend's dad called us and said the calf was in the wrong pen! It had gone over a snowbank into the other pen! Sometimes I wonder if calves do this just to annoy us, have fun, or just to explore. We have over 60 calves, and I have trouble keeping track of them!

Calf That Loves To Be Pet
I was at the farm a couple days ago, and some of the calves were old enough to go outside. Before they are allowed outside, they have to have ear tags so they don’t get lost. I noticed a calf sitting all by itself. Naturally, I go over to see what is the matter, or what it’s doing. It was just lying there, so I sat beside it. It didn’t move, so I reached over and rubbed its head. It loved being pet! So I was just sitting there, petting it when all of a sudden it decides it wants to sit on my lap! It acted as if it were a kitten, just rubbing its head along my hand, so I kept petting it.
After about five minutes, another calf wondered what I was doing. She wandered over and then she wanted to be petted, too! I was confused, wondering if these animals were really wild or tame and following our dog’s antics. After about ten minutes, when my sister and my mom’s boyfriend were done feeding the cows still in the barn and watering them, I had to leave. But we went to see the cows in the field, so I didn’t mind. I love when calves act like little kittens and puppies, because they’re so calm, unlike their frantic mothers who would be scared of us humans

Calves
Today I am going to talk about calves again. When we went to check on our cows to see if there were any more calves born. One cow was in labor, but we let her have it on her own. We waited, but then my mom's boyfriend got a call saying there were 40 deer by one of his friend's house. We left the cow, hoping she would have the calf when we weren't there. We went to see the deer, and it was weird how they all just stood there in the open. Usually deer are shy.
When we came back to the farm, she still hadn't had the baby yet. We watched her for about a half hour, but then my mom called and said we had to go back and eat supper. After we ate, we got our boots back on and headed for the cow pen. She still hadn't had her baby, even though it had been a few hours. It was dark out, so my mom's boyfriend let his pickup run so we could use the headlights to see when the cow had the baby. He just flashed the headlights every so often, so that the cow didn't get scared.
About an hour later, I noticed the cow standing up in the dark. I told my mom's boyfriend and he flashed the headlights. We watched her for a little bit, and I noticed there was a calf. He drove closer and I said,"There's two calves!" He said that this cow had had twins last year, too when she was a heifer. Then he got my mom and took the calves to the barn. I love it when there are baby calves on the farm!

First Baby Calf
My mom’s boyfriend has cows. He always lets us go out and see them, and we’ve helped him feed them before. Just a week ago he sold almost all of his calves from last year, with still about nineteen of them left. One cow is very special to him. Its number is 701. This cow will come right up to him and let him pet it, lift its legs up, and anything else. A few weeks ago, he had an idea. He put my youngest sister on top of the cow! The cow didn’t move an inch. So, he put my other sister on top of it. Again, it didn’t move. My sisters only weigh about 100 pounds together, so he said, “I wonder,” and put me on top of the cow. This time it stepped forward, but only because my mom was holding corn out to it. I screamed and almost fell off, though so my mom’s boyfriend got me down, and he was laughing.
Just a week ago a cow had its first calf, the first calf of the year. It already eats like its mother-eating hay. It still suckles but very little. It only suckles when it is thirsty, but now it’s starting to drink water.
One day when it was eating, I had an idea. I decided to act like a calf, see what it would do, how it would react. At first it got scared and ran to a corner of the pen. I got down on my hands and knees and looked through the gate. (This was all inside the calving barn) The calf understood I wasn’t scary and came up to the gate. Then it stuck its head through so I got closer to the gate so that me and the calf were touching noses. Then the calf licked me! Then the process happened again- it would get scared, it got braver, came up touched noses with me, and licked me again! It came up and licked me about eight times in all and my mom’s boyfriend was surprised. He had never seen a calf act like that!

Mammoth Baby Found
Well, I decided I was going to stick with animals for the rest of the project. I love animals, so I’ll write more about them. I had a national geographic magazine, and it talked about mostly about animals. Apes, gorillas, etc. were mentioned.
The most interesting thing I found while reading this magazine was a mammoth baby. They had found a little mammoth baby millions of years old. The baby was whole, except for most of its hair, its toenails, its left ear, and part of its tail.
Scientists cut open the young (yet old) beast. They discovered that the mammoth’s lungs were filled with sticky tar. The all agreed the young beast died by getting stuck in a tar pit, which most present-day elephants almost never get out of. The tar makes you sink quickly. It’s like quicksand, only stickier.
They think most likely the mother watched the baby die, and once the herd left the area she whined and cried for her precious baby, but then finally gave up and followed the herd.
The scientists were also thinking of cloning the animal, because the DNA in the hair would help with that. They haven’t done it yet, but I think they should, because it would be really awesome to see a real live mammoth. And they could put the baby with an elephant mother, until its old enough to grow up by itself. One day, we would be able to see the kind of creatures that roamed the Indian’s world.

Hoarders
I recently watched a show called Hoarders. It is about people who collect things and never throw them away. They clutter their houses with junk. Some people’s houses you can’t even walk through.
There was an old woman on the show. She was one of these hoarders. The house she lives in is a five-bedroom house, but she has so much junk in her house that she was forced to live in a little part of the house. You can’t even get into her living room. It crowded up to the doorframe with things she thinks is important to her, and where there isn’t junk in the living room, she had bits of paper and Styrofoam plates ripped up all over the floor.
She agreed to get some professional help.
A professional visited her house. She looked around. She peered into the basement. The stairway was so cluttered with stuff that the professional said it could pose a great threat. The old woman said, “It doesn’t pose a threat to me. I never go down there.”
Her refrigerator was in a hallway, and it was apartment size refrigerator that one of her children had given her. The microwave was really small.
The grandson of the woman felt horrible for his grandma. He said, “I can barely eat knowing my grandma is sitting on her bed eating TV dinners while I have a nice meal.” She finally agreed to have crews help her to clean out her house.
There was also another family, who had a three year old son. He loved to clean. His room was neat and tidy. But the rest of the house was a disaster. It looked like a tornado had hit it. The father had his own work area downstairs, but you could barely walk through it. Another professional cleaner took about two minutes just to get to the man, and it was only about five feet away from where she stood. It was basically his fault the house was the way it was. It was his wife’s too, letting him do this.
The wife was terrified of what would become of her child. She said he was a good boy, learning to clean. Finally she got fed up with the mess. She told her husband to get help or get out.
They agreed to have a crew clean out the house. Most of the things were put into boxes and put in the basement. The wife said this had changed their lives.

Animals
There are many animals in the world. There are some that look funny, some that are really cute, and some that are just strange. The ones that are strange don't get a whole lot of attention, people just wish they were gone.
My favorite animals are the big and small cats. I have two cats, and they are beatiful. One is an orange tabby, and the other is a siamese. My siamese is so calm, he'll roll over begging you to rub his stomach. The orange tabby on the other hand, he'll scratch you and run. If you wait two minutes, he comes back and sits on your lap.

My cats used to be with my mom, but she didn't want them anymore so my dad took them. The orange tabby was mad at first, but after a few days there he was fine. But he had to get used to the siamese again because all the new smells confused him so much that he thought the siamese was a totally different cat. At first the siamese ran then went up to the tabby waited until he hissed then ran again.
I used to have a dog, too, but we weren't around too much to take care of her. Usually, my grandpa fed and watered all of the pets, but then the cats went to my dad's so he took the dog to his house, and that's working out great.
